Wolper Jewish Hospital is a leader in the provision of medical care that not only detects and prevents illness and disability, but improves recovery from injuries and traumatic events.

Wolper provides modern rehabilitation facilities and intensive rehabilitation therapies that lead to improved health and well-being.

Programs are individually tailored to assist recovery for a range of disabling conditions, including orthopaedic and sporting injuries, stroke, neurological disabilities, arthritis, and road accident injuries, work-related injuries, post-surgical orthopaedic care and injuries to the back and neck.

Specialised Care

Wolper's Rehabilitation Unit aims to encourage the smooth transition from dependence in the hospital environment to independence on return to home.

Wolper's multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team consists of highly skilled professionals experienced in meeting the multitude of rehabilitation and medical needs.

Patient programs are directed by a Rehabilitation Consultant who assesses patients twice weekly and is supported by specialist rehabilitation and allied health professionals including:

    Nursing staff
    Physiotherapists
    Occupational therapists
    Discharge planner
    Speech pathologists
    Dietitians
    Counsellors
    Neuropsychologists

Individualised Programs

Patients are assessed prior to, and on admission and a comprehensive rehabilitation program designed - in conjunction with the patient - to achieve:

    Improved management of physical, functional and psychological deficits
    Increased levels of functioning in all areas of life
    Improvement and upgrading of activity tolerance
    Evaluation and provision of patient resettlement at home, work and leisure.

Facilities

Wolper's 13 bed Rehabilitation Unit is housed in a separate wing to the Hospital's medical and surgical units.

Services available include:

    Physiotherapy
    Occupational Therapy
    Exercise Therapy
    Hydrotherapy
    Medical Consulting rooms
    Patient lounge and dining areas

Personal Requirements

Patients are encouraged to achieve independence and to be as active as possible. Patients are expected to have all meals out of bed and to take lunch and dinner in the dining room.

Rehabilitation patients are required to bring:

    Comfortable day clothes, shoes (not scuffs) and night attire
    Front buttoning clothes (for people with upper limbs problems)
    Swimming attire (for patients undergoing hydrotherapy)
    Personal toiletries
    All current medications and repeat prescriptions
    Current x-rays

It is advised that all valuables are left at home as the Hospital does not accept responsibility for valuables lost.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome at Wolper's Rehabilitation Unit between 3.00pm and 8.00pm, however it is requested that visitors restrict their visits during therapy hours.
