Anaesthesia and You. Prepared by the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, this will provide you with information concerning the role of the anaesthetist in an operation, the types of anaesthesia available and how they effect you and what you can do prior to an operation to make your anaesthetic safer.

Health Insurance

	Health Insurance Commision - the Commonwealth authority responsible for administering health care programmes, including Medicare, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, and the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register.
	Medibank Private - government owned private health insurance company. Includes products, premiums, and details of the government's health insurance rebate.
	Hospitals Contribution Fund (HCF) - not-for-profit organisation offering private health insurance for individuals, couples and families.
	NIB Health Funds Ltd - includes cover options, benefits, how to make claims, and contacts.
	Defence Health - private health insurance supplier to the eligible defence force community.
	Health Insurance Advisors Australia (HIAA) - established to assist people in being able to understand, manage and choose the most appropriate private health insurance.

Health and Government

	Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care. Responsible for care at the federal government level.
	NSW Health, Department of Health within the New South Wales state government.
	The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) consolidates within a single national organisation the often independent functions of research funding and development of advice. Improving the health of Australians.
	Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is an independent health and welfare statistics and information agency in the Commonwealth of Australia's Health and Aged Care portfolio.
	CRS Australia, formerly the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, is the largest provider of vocational rehabilitation and injury management services in Australia.
	Therapeutic Goods Administration. Ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of therapeutic goods for the Australian community.
