The Tay-Sachs Disease prevention program
The Tay-Sachs Disease Prevention Program provides screening and advice for people who may be carriers of Tay-Sachs - a genetic disorder, that proves fatal by the ages of 3 to 5.
The condition is commonly found descendants of Ashkenazi Jews and Wolper Jewish Hospital offers a genetic screening service for young couples or anyone concerned on the first Sunday of each month. Further Information.
The Bone Marrow Registry
The Bone Marrow Registry assists in the worldwide campaign for ethnic specific databases on bone marrow compatibility in the fight against leukaemia.
Blood testing is the best way to identify compatibility with matches more common in family groups but also in people of the same genetic origin. Blood donation takes place Wolper Jewish Hospital every Sunday between 9-11 am with donors listed on the Red Cross Bone Marrow Register. Further Information.
Wellbeing Program
Wolper Jewish Hospital is developing various health-related activities around the theme of "Wellness". This program was launched in August and activities commenced soon after. The current thematic area is “nutrition”.
